       The idea of reconstructing the church was nurtured in the mind and heart of its future senior priest Father Valeriy. Father Valeriy realized the necessity of building the church straight in the Saltovsky housing estate of Kharkov, inhabited by large numbers of people, including Afghanistan veterans. Having gone through the hearth of the Afghan war, Father Valeriy became embittered only against cruelty, that is why he was striving from the bottom of his heart to build a church not only for warriors but also for the souls wounded by the war, a church in which all the prayers would be under the protection of the Great Martyr St. George the Victory-Bearer.

       President of Stock Company "The Internationalist" Alexander Nepomyaschiy supported the idea of creating the church of the Great Martyr St. George the Victory-Bearer and provided funds for its construction.
       On October 15, 1996 the Most Reverend Father in God Nikodim sanctified the parcel of land intended for construction of the church and its first stone. From that day, from the first stone laid by the hand of the Most Reverend Father in God Nikodim the history of the church of the Great Martyr St. George the Victory-Bearer began.

       Now that some pages of this history have been written, it is hard to believe that five years ago there was neither beauty of the temporary church nor the walls of stone church growing from the ground. However, this is the case. We would never have heard about it but for the spiritual community of the church of the Great Martyr St. George the Victory-Bearer. Anyone can build a house, yet it is impossible for one man to erect a church 38.5 meters high, decorate it and make it worth calling a House of God. It is even hard to imagine the magnitude and the beauty of the future church, dominating 16-storeyed blocks.
       It takes special brick, special cement, but besides kind, caring and hardworking hands to create such a perfection.
       The Church is a House of God. It should be created neither for children nor for grandchildren, nor for a lifetime but for centuries. There were laid 106 piles at the foundation of the Church of the Great Martyr St. George the Victory-Bearer, the model of the church itself leaves a deep impression of its grandeur.
       But these are only prospects for the future. Today, albeit with difficulties, the walls of the Church of the Great Martyr St. George the Victory-Bearer grow high into the sky. It grows day by day, becomes ever greater, and fills itself with beauty and harmony. Among the difficulties, problems, dullness and despair it grows into the reflection of the Church of the Human Spirit which is created in each of us by God. And if despite all this the Church of the Great Martyr St. George the Victory-Bearer is constructed, then grace of God is here and the construction is blessed.
